"A typical day consists of chatting with people and helping them to access all the great activities we have to offer. We want to make sure more people are enjoying the health and wellbeing benefits of being regularly active - we are here to help them do that."

"I love meeting new customers and colleagues across BH Live. I have made friends for life here! 🧡"

"I think you must be passionate about what's available and good at building relationships with customers and colleagues. You have to have great all-round communication skills, and be able to understand people's wants and needs."

"In my spare time, I love to exercise by hitting the gym or taking my Cockapoo for long walks along the beach."

Jacob - Technical Stage & Operations Manager

Meet Jacob, our Technical Stage & Operations Manager at Fairfield Halls in Croydon, who sat down with us to share more about his role:

⭐ How did your career journey with BH Live begin? 

"I began working for BH Live in 2019 when Fairfield Halls re-opened after a three-year refurbishment. I took on my current role after the venue reopened after lockdown." 
</p>
<p>
⭐  What is a typical day like for you? 

"No day is ever the same. An average day can range from managing my emails and organising meetings to carrying out maintenance, setting up for shows, or planning and delivering events." 
</p>
<p>
⭐ What is your favourite thing about your job? 

"The challenges. Working in a historic building with a busy events programme means there's always lots of care and maintenance to be done. My job is never boring." 
</p>
<p>
⭐ What do you enjoy the most about working for BH Live? 

"The size of the organisation. BH Live is a large organisation, but small enough that your contribution feels like it's making a difference to the success of the business."

"I enjoy restoring and riding old motorbikes and exploring the more rugged parts of the country."

Leo - Recreation Assistant
</h2>
<p>
We employ hundreds of Recreation Assistants at our leisure centres across Bournemouth and Portsmouth. They ensure that our customers stay safe, and that our facilities comply with rules and regulations.

Meet Leo, one of our Bournemouth's Recreational Assistants, who sat down with us to share more about his role:
</p>
<p>
⭐ What has your career journey been at BH Live?

"I joined my team more than a year and a half ago as a Recreational Assistant. This is my first full-time job and I'm really enjoying it."
</p>
<p>
⭐ What is a typical day like for you?

"Busy! Recreation Assistants have lots of daily jobs to do such as pool maintenance, cleaning, setting up equipment, and making sure that all of our swimmers stay safe."
</p>
<p>
⭐ What is your favourite thing about your job?

"My colleagues are a wonderful bunch and very supportive. If anyone has any difficulties, they're approachable, easy to talk to, and very knowledgeable. I love chatting with our visitors too."
</p>
<p>
⭐ What do you need to be successful in your role?

"As a lifeguard, I have to be vigilant when I’m on poolside. I have to be aware of possible risks and hazards, and make sure even the smallest hazards are on my radar. Caring about your role is a huge priority."
</p>

⭐ What do you like to do in your spare time?

"I love drawing, reading, and enjoy spending time swimming and being in the outdoors. I’m currently training with the RNLI!"

Nicola - Entertainments and Events
</h2>

Last year we hosted more than 500 cultural events across our venues. Our entertainment team develops our fantastic event programmes, bringing class acts to our venues and making sure we accommodate all their needs.

We sat down with Nicola, who works in our Entertainments and Events Team to find out more about her role:

⭐ What is a typical day like for you? What do you do? What are your responsibilities? 

"From managing venue diaries, raising contracts, discussing deals, and liaising with promoters and producers, no day is ever the same! I get to work on a range of events including charity performances, tribute acts, as well as national and international tours with big productions." 
</p>

⭐ Describe your career journey at BH Live 

"I have worked at Bournemouth International Centre (BIC) since 2003! I have worked across many of our teams including hospitality, administration, and conferences and exhibitions. In November 2024, I'll be celebrating 21 years of working across our fantastic venues." 
</p>

⭐ What is your favourite thing about your job? 

"I love the people I work with! I have been so lucky over the years to learn from some incredible characters. Our teams have so much knowledge and passion - it's truly infectious." 
</p>

⭐ What do you need to be successful in your role? 

"Attention to detail has been key for every single role I've worked. I also think that having a great personality and communication goes a long way 😉. A smile also helps!"
</p>

"I love going to the theatre to watch all kinds of performance - especially musicals! I also love to venture outdoors and sit and read a good book in my garden."

Sports Activities Apprentice

Did you know...We have more than 1,400 amazing colleagues delivering inspiring services and activities across the BCP region, Portsmouth, and London. Because we run leisure centres, sports venues, theatres, arenas, cafes, bars and restaurants we have so many different roles including Operations, HR, Leisure, Technology, and many more.

⭐ Describe your career journey at BH Live 

"I joined BH Live in 2022 as a Sports Activities Apprentice straight from college. A year later I became the Junior Activities Coordinator 🙌." 
</p>
<p>
⭐ What opportunities did you receive throughout your apprenticeship? 

"I worked with different community groups to inspire more people to get active, which helped me develop my customer service skills. I also completed several online courses covering topics such as supporting adults and children with mental health conditions and inspiring women to get involved with sport and fitness. I shadowed the Sports Development Manager for more than 350 hours too which helped me learn on the job, build relationships, and support colleagues." 
</p>
<p>
⭐ What are your key responsibilities?

"I coordinate with class instructors, manage children’s parties, and monitor and evaluate the junior sessions we deliver. We are always looking for new and exciting ways to expand our junior activity timetable!" 
</p>

⭐ What is your favourite thing about working for BH Live? 

"I get to work with so many different people from across the business. I also enjoy being able to coach the walking netball sessions on Monday mornings. Recently I was given the opportunity to begin a 14-month management qualification which is really beneficial for my professional development”.

"I enjoy playing football and seeing friends and family. I also love watching Pompey at Fratton Park with my dad - we are season ticket holders!"  </p>

Hannah - Hospitality Duty Manager

We operate several cafés, bars, restaurants and pop-up food and drink outlets across Portsmouth, Croydon and in the BCP region 🍺☕🍸🍽
Their success relies on the hard work and skills of our hospitality and catering teams, who work throughout the year to deliver great customer service at private dinners, cultural performances, conferences and exhibitions, live entertainment, and so much more.
We sat down with Hannah, one of our Duty Managers, to find out more about her role:

"I really enjoy getting to train people and see people in our department grow and develop new skills."

Emilia - Health & Fitness Advisor

Our Health & Fitness advisors support the wellbeing and fitness of thousands of people who visit our BH Live Active leisure centres across Portsmouth and the BCP region 🧡
As well as keeping our facilities clean and operational, they also play an important role in supporting our gym users' training and fitness goals in a safe and positive way.
We sat down with Emilia, one of our Health & Fitness Advisors, to find out more about her role:

"On a day-to-day basis, I'm responsible for making sure the gym is clean and tidy. I also coach junior gym sessions and lead new members through gym inductions, helping them to create their fitness plans."

"I joined BH Live as an Assistant Swim Coach in 2021 - I still teach swimming alongside my role as Health & Fitness Advisor!"

Colin - Ticketing Manager
</h2>

Did you know...we sell more than half a million tickets to cultural performances every year at venues including Fairfield Halls, Bournemouth Pavilion and Bournemouth International Centre?

It takes a team of talented professionals to make sure it all runs smoothly. We sat down with Colin, our Ticketing Manager, to find out more:

⭐ What is a typical day like?

"I am responsible for overseeing our ticketing processes across three entertainment venues, making sure every show and performance is set up and easy for customers to see what's on and buy tickets. Part of my role involves speaking with tour promoters, external agents, managing systems, and supporting our awesome ticketing colleagues."

Ben – Sous Chef
</h2>

Did you know... as well as leisure centres and event venues, we also operate restaurants, cafés, bars, pop-up food and drink stalls and much more ✨

Making sure our customers are refreshed, refuelled, and have a great time when they visit is an important part of making sure they come back for more! Our hard-working hospitality team is behind all these services, making sure they run smoothly and that customers enjoy lots of delicious food and drink.

We sat down with Ben, our superstar Sous Chef in Bournemouth, to find out more about his role:

⭐ What is a typical day like?

"No one day is ever the same! I could prepare a private lunch for 800 people one day and be serving dinner to customers at Elevate Brasserie & Bar the next."

"My responsibilities include creating and writing menus, managing and ordering stock, organising team duties, and ensuring we comply with legal and health and safety requirements."
</p>

"I have more than 30 years of chef experience - I enjoy applying my knowledge and expertise, making sure people enjoy great food and that we operate as efficiently as possible."

Senior Operations Manager
</h2>

Ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes at a bustling event venue? 🎭

We operate some amazing event venues in Bournemouth and Croydon. From cultural events and live entertainment to orchestral rehearsals and conferences, every day brings something new. Our front-of-house teams, from box office to security, strive to make every visit unforgettable.

We sat down with our Senior Operations Manager at Fairfield Halls (BH Live), to learn more about his role:

⭐ What is a typical day like?

"No two days are the same! I'm responsible for the operations department at Fairfield Halls, ensuring that our operational and front of house teams are maintaining a high level of security and cleanliness. I also work closely with my colleagues in Entertainments and Events, making sure that our promoters, patrons, and clients receive a fantastic atmosphere and experience throughout their visit."
</p>

⭐What is your favourite thing about your job?

"I love welcoming community events into our building. With Croydon boasting such diversity, it's great to see that Fairfield Halls is enjoyed by people of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds."

⭐ What do you need to be successful in your role?

"Organisation...and stamina! The events are always coming, and there is always something to do. Regularly meeting with colleagues and teams and keeping a well-ordered to-do list is a big part of my job as a manager."

"I loved working during our busy festive panto season. Welcoming groups of young people and families into the theatre while ensuring corporate and private hire events run smoothly was a really challenging but exciting time."

Keri - Swimming Academy Manager
</h2>

Becoming a swimming teacher can be a fun and rewarding career, teaching life-saving skills to individuals of all ages and abilities 🏊

Last year, we delivered more than 500 hours of swimming lessons to more 6,700 people across Portsmouth, Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole through our Swimming Academy 🧡

We sat down with Keri, our Swimming Academy Manager, to learn more about her role:

⭐ What is a typical day like?

"No two days are the same! I support my team and their development, keep our swim programmes running smoothly, work with local schools, and deliver training courses."

⭐What is your favourite thing about your job?

"Knowing we’re teaching such an important life skill is incredibly rewarding. I love being part of a team delivering a positive, inclusive swimming programme. It’s especially meaningful to hear how much customers enjoy their lessons, particularly those in school swimming lessons who might not otherwise have access."

Rachel - Exercise Referral Advisor

Our Exercise Referral scheme is at the heart of our BH Live Active health and wellbeing programmes.

Designed for people with long-term health conditions, it helps participants discover the benefits of physical activity, guided by our qualified Exercise Referral Advisors. Our specially qualified team of Exercise Referral Advisors guide our members every step of the way through their fitness journey.
